Talking to Yourself in Moving Pictures

In The New Psycho-cybernetics by Dr Maxwell Maltz and Dan Kennedy, they write about the importance of communicating with yourself and being clear about what YOU want, so that you can focus on what effect you want to create in your interactions (with yourself and with others).

Take Charge of Your Life Instead of Just Letting Life Happen to You

Many goal and attraction courses talk about being clear about what you want. But how do you get clear about what you want? Here is a great exercise to help you become clear and to find out what you really want so that you can attract your desires on purpose.

The Theatre of your Mind

This is essentially an exercise in creative visualization. The point is to immerse as many of your senses as possible, to feel and smell and touch and see and enjoy as you imagine vividly what you are experiencing in your mind. The idea is that this visualizing ‘tricks’ your brain into forming new or stronger neural associations so that your normal way of being is to become this picture of yourself because your brain expects it and your body is configured for it. SO.

At a time you are unlikely to be interrupted, just sit back, close your eyes and start to picture what you desire. For example, a house by a lake. See yourself driving up to the house. What does the entrance look like, how big is the yard, how many trees are around, what does the lake look like, what is the temperature? Are you wearing bright shorts and breathing deeply, noticing the fresh warm air gently welcoming you there? How do you feel when you see what you’re seeing and knowing that it is all yours? Then see yourself getting out of your car or truck or motorcycle or bike and walking up to the front door.

Watch your hand unlock the door and turn the doorknob. What is the first sight you see? Laughter (in a good way), food cooking in the kitchen, a cat purring on the steps? Hear your footsteps. Are you walking along a hardwood floor? Go through each room with clarity and using all of your senses, notice what is there and enjoy what you see. For example, if you are in the kitchen, how bright is it and what foods do you see and smell? Do you notice the aroma of the place? Cedar, flowers, mountain air, summer breeze? Reach out and touch the counters and cupboards. Taste some of the food or coffee. What do you hear? Look around. Who walks in the door with a big smile and embraces you? The more vivid and detailed the more you will attract this into your life.

You see, when you take the time to envision your goal actually happening in your mind, it helps you to clarify what you do and don’t want to happen. When something comes up that you don’t like, you can rewind, start again or adjust any way you like and then proceed. This is a much easier way than changing something in the outer world once it has manifested. Prepave the way in your mind, then take action to live what you have prepared for yourself.

Visualization is a form of communication that is much more effective and basic than written language. For example, think about what you did on the weekend. Then notice how you thought about it. Was it in words or did you see pictures in your mind? This is how the brain stores information, in pictures and in a holographic manner. (Check out Vernon Woolf’s work with Holodynamics - imagine yourself as you want to be, then act that way. Here’s an interview with Vernon Woolf from the Conscious Media Network.)

We are recording and storing images all the time and the storage in your mind cannot distinguish from what is real, made up or remembered. Now this might seem like a flaw and explains why some people seem to have faulty memories and why different people remember the events differently.

However, there is one great and wonderful feature associated with this. Your brain attracts to you, that which it knows, understands, has a familiar disposition towards, and decides what is on your important list (by what you give your attention to). Therefore, if you can visualize in detail and with feeling, exactly how you desire your life to be, then you are much more likely to live it. Your mind sees it as YOU.

Want to Manifest Something Faster? Gratitude is Positive Expectation

Appreciation keeps your mind on what you want, and attracts more of what you want to you. Showing gratitude before you have received it, increases the likelihood of it becoming a reality. Gratitude is faith in action. Once you have pictured clearly what you want, show gratitude for already having received it. This can be hard for some people and yet it is what successful and spiritual people have discovered. Try it for yourself! What do you have to lose? Better yet, think about what you have to gain….
